When and where are auditions?
Auditions will be held in Biddle Music Building on Duke’s East Campus. They can be scheduled at any available time from August 25-September 5.
Who is eligible to audition?
Any Duke undergraduate or graduate may audition. You don’t have to be a freshman—upperclassmen, graduate students, and alumni are encouraged to audition as well!
What is an audition like?
Auditions are relaxed and brief (10-15 minutes). First, Allan will chat with you to learn more about you and your musical background. He will then lead you through some exercises to warm you up and check your range. Then, you will sing a piece of your choosing and learn some new music with help from the piano.
Chorale can accommodate musicians with wide range of singing abilities and experience levels. We want auditions to be a pleasant experience for you and a chance for Allan to learn more about you as a musician and a person.
How do I sign up for an audition?
You can sign up for an audition here or by emailing Allan Friedman at allan@duke.edu.
What kind of commitment is Chorale?
Chorale rehearses from 7:30-9:30 every Tuesday in Bone Hall in the Biddle Music Building and from 4:45-6:30 Thursday afternoon in Baldwin Auditorium on Duke’s East Campus. We have 4-5 concerts spread throughout the academic year on Duke’s campus and in collaboration with non-profit partners in the wider community.
